THE NORTHERN CHARTER presents with A Glimpse of Paradise...
(Pan Records / Berlin)
Heatsick is the solo moniker of Berlin based Steven Warwick, who creates gorgeous waves of clicky drum-pad rhythms and pastel coloured keyboard melodies to make for his own seductive and synthetic blend of broken house musique. Using a solitary Casio keyboard and a myriad of effects, Warwick's music is created in real-time, based upon loops that are moulded, stretched and reduced to interlink, nestling and merging with one another in a similar way to his visual artwork (where objects and media combine and coalesce in an environment inviting the viewer's participation) Combining a palette of sources from early Chicago house mixtapes (in sound, texture and mixing technique) through to musique concrète and psychedelia, Heatsick proposes a live dance music that expands and unlocks the senses
w/ YONG YONG
(Nightschool Records / Glasgow via Lisbon)
Yong Yong are Rodolfo Brito & Francisco Silva, a duo from Lisbon, Portugal now living in Glasgow. Since their first album on Nigtschool where the focus was lo-fi tape jams and abstract drones, Yong Yong have since evolved with a whole slew of contemporary musics, albeit; with their own distinctive and slanted perspective. Samples and degraded electronics, the aesthetics of crumbling form, and pop music turned in on itself are mixed into a vortex which still manages to be underpinned by a melancholic sense of melody. Both experimental and populist, Yong Yong blend high and low culture melted down into a miasmic, evocative mercury; a fluid experience where nothing is what it seems
